About Us
Redeemer Baptist Church exists for the glory of God and by the grace of God. We are a collection of sinners who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ. It is by God’s grace, his gift alone, that we have become God’s people and can live for him.
Redeemer launched in May 2021 at an orchard here in Kelowna. We started small; but have grown much in our first year or so. On most Sunday’s now we call the East Kelowna Hall our home. Redeemer is becoming known for the bold preaching of God’s Word, and for our joyful and vibrant fellowship. We have a heart to be a faithful gospel-centred church here in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. We pray earnestly, and labour passionately for God’s grace to shine in this place and to lead many to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
What to Expect
As you come to a Sunday service at Redeemer expect to be warmly greeted by the people of God. Our service starts at 10 a.m. and goes to about 11:30. The service is filled with prayer, the reading of God’s Word, songs of praise to the Lord, gospel-centered biblical preaching, and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Our Sunday service is bookended with a prayer meeting and Redeemer Kids from 9:00 a.m. – 9:40, and a fellowship meal from 11:30 a.m. till… well let’s just say our people love fellowship! Feel free to come early for prayer and stay late for fellowship.
Dress is a mix of casual and Sunday best. Come as you are! Our music is a mix of old hymns and new songs, with an emphasis on congregational singing. Our service is family integrated. As in, we worship together with young and old, and do not have a separate children’s church. It’s a joy to welcome the little children, even if they squirm and squawk a little bit! We invite you to come and worship the Lord with us!
Philosophy and Values
Redeemer Baptist Church is committed to doing ministry according to God’s Word. We Worship according to the Word, we preach the Word, we live the Word. This philosophy can be simplified into this simple mission statement:
We exist to glorify God through God-centred, heartfelt worship, proclaiming his Word, making faithful disciples, and spreading his gospel in the world.
This mission leads us as a church to focus on four main things: God-centered and heartfelt worship, biblical preaching, grace-filled discipleship, and gospel mission.
1. God-centered, Heartfelt Worship.
Redeemer gathers together on Sunday mornings to worship God in the spirit of holiness. We gather to offer God acceptable worship with reverence and awe. This worship is not about meeting the needs of man, it is about coming into God’s courts with thanksgiving, with a song of praise, with a gospel-softened heart that is eager to hear from God. We follow the Word of God in coming together with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. We do not follow the trends of Christian music, but try to incorporate both new and old, always with great attention to the quality of both lyric and melody. The music and musicians serve not as a performance but as accompaniment to help the church sing. In addition to God-centered music, the church worships God through prayer, Scripture reading, the Lord’s Supper, and through listening to the preaching of God’s Word.
2. Biblical Preaching.
Week by week Redeemer gathers to hear from God. We open His Word many times in the service, but most prominently as the Word is preached. Anyone who attends the church can reliably expect to hear an expositional sermon, where the point of the sermon is the point of the passage. The pastors aim to ensure that it is a faithful, engaging, applicable, and well-presented message each week. The sermon is a place where the Saints are edified and exhorted, but it is also a place where evangelism happens. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the great theme that resounds from the pulpit.
3. Grace-Filled Discipleship.
Redeemer Baptist Church is to be a place where true fellowship and true community takes place. This is not a consumer driven church. This is an every-member ministry church where you will be challenged to grow in your walk with Christ through your interactions with other believers. Discipleship happens as the church shares in gospel-centered fellowship, prays together and for one another on a regular basis, and sharpens one another through living life together week by week. The discipleship at Redeemer is grace-filled in that our motivation for all Christian growth is God’s grace, not fear, pride, or any form of self-effort. We are saved by grace through and through, from beginning to end.
4. Gospel Mission.
Redeemer seeks to be a Great Commission focused church. We see it as the mission of the church to reach the ends of the earth with the gospel, until there are no more unreached peoples. Redeemer Baptist Church plays a part in this great mission as a local church by training missionaries, sending missionaries and faithfully supporting missionaries. Redeemer is also committed to church planting in the surrounding area. This desire to plant and send others out is in the DNA of the church from the beginning. Local evangelism is encouraged in every member reaching out with the gospel to those who are around them. This heart for mission is nurtured as we pray regularly for God’s kingdom to come both here and abroad.
